Animal feed is composed of plant material, cereals and vegetable proteins. These cannot be fully digested and utilised by animals. many cereals have a proportion of their energy in the form of Non Starch Polysaccharides (NSP), also known as fibre. A large part of NSP is water-soluble and causes hgh viscosity in the small intestine, which results in impaired digestion. The nutrional value of grains and other raw materials is negatively affected by their dietary fibre content.
