Phytase is an enzyme that makes phosphorus available for animal digestion. Phytase breaks down phytate, a substrate that contains phosphorus, an important nutrient that is essential for growth, cell maintainace and tissue repair. Adding phytase to animal feed allows the animal to utilize more of the phosphorus within the feed. Phytase in diets improves also the gut health by reduced secretions from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT).
